underground extension for Academie Dans en Theater Arnhem

A large atrium with a glass roof was designed to bring daylight into the underground building. Expanses of glass were installed above eye level in the walls between the atrium and the surrounding classrooms and rehearsal rooms, allowing daylight to flood into the studios. Cast-iron cross-girders transect the atrium. A system of walkways and plateaus create a variety of spaces. In collaboration with Marijke van der Wijst, these are furnished with red sofas.
